Dining at the Palace
Five distinctive venues where history, flavour, and atmosphere converge.
Five rooms, five different evenings
Most hotels have a restaurant. Woodville has five rooms that grew up at different moments in the palace’s life and never quite agreed with each other — a lounge hung with hunting trophies, a bar papered in signed photographs of Hollywood’s golden age, a glass-walled dining room a film star opened, an Italian glasshouse in the garden, and a banquet hall built for four hundred people at once.
All five are open to visitors, not only to house guests. We are on Raj Bhawan Road, about 800 metres below Mall Road, with free parking for eighty cars — which in Shimla settles the argument about where to have dinner more often than the menu does.
Between them the kitchens run Indian, Continental, Chinese and a full Italian menu. Vegetarian and chicken preparations are made on separate boards throughout, and there is no beef or pork anywhere on the estate.
The Tiger Lounge
The palace's signature dining venue. The Tiger Lounge is adorned with massive tiger trophies and objets d'art that recreate the lavish lifestyle of Indian maharajas and their love for the hunt. The restaurant serves a curated multi-cuisine menu featuring Indian, Continental, and Chinese delicacies — prepared with organic, locally sourced ingredients wherever possible.
The Hollywood Bar
Step into the 1930s. The Hollywood Bar's walls are covered with signed photographs of Hollywood's Golden Age stars — a testament to Shimla's cosmopolitan past when the summer capital attracted global celebrities and aristocrats. The intimate setting is perfect for cocktails, single malts, and conversation, accompanied by curated bar bites.
House of the Rising Sun
Inaugurated by Amitabh Bachchan himself during the filming of Black at the palace, this glass-walled restaurant offers panoramic views of bamboo groves and Deodar forests. The transparent architecture floods the space with natural light, making it the most atmospheric dining venue in Shimla. Multi-cuisine menu with an emphasis on fresh, seasonal ingredients.
Heritage Cafe 1938
Our Italian kitchen, in a glasshouse among the Deodars. Neapolitan dough hand-stretched to order and finished in the wood oven, pasta and gnocchi rolled fresh each day, focaccia baked every morning — alongside a single-origin espresso bar, 18-hour cold brew and ceremonial-grade matcha. The garden runs down to the pines, making it the place for long lunches and slow coffee.
House of Royals
The palace’s grand banquet hall, and the room we open for the occasions that need space — wedding functions, conferences, private dinners and celebrations. Long tables under chandeliers, a dedicated kitchen behind it, and menus built to order, from Indian and Continental spreads to the wood-fired and Italian dishes of the Heritage Cafe.

A long lunch, or coffee in the rain
Heritage Cafe 1938 — wood-fired pizza and hand-made pasta in a glasshouse with the garden on every side. Breakfast is served all day.
Dinner with the family
The Tiger Lounge. Multi-cuisine, generous portions, and the trophies on the wall keep children occupied for at least one course.
A drink and a conversation
The Hollywood Bar. Small, dark, wood-panelled, walls covered in signed photographs. Single malts and cocktails.
Somewhere with a view
House of the Rising Sun. Glass on all sides, bamboo and Deodar beyond it, and the light does most of the work.
A wedding function or a conference
House of Royals, the banquet hall, with menus built to order — including the wood-fired dishes from the cafe.
Something at four in the afternoon
The cafe again. It is the one room that never really closes between meals.
